A boutique perfumery

‘Authencity, Passion and Adventure’

The Nicolas Morlet Perfumery is an artisanal, boutique perfumery.
We create unique fragrances exclusively made from natural materials. We use only vegan ingredients that are free of synthetic molecules of any kind.

Nicolas hand-selected the best essential oils and absolutes, testing more than 20 samples of each essential oil from artisanal sources all over the planet before choosing “the one” that had the most alluring presentation. He selected over 60 essential oils and absolutes that he then used to create his signature fragrances. All fragrances are composed and meticulously handcrafted by Nicolas Morlet in Hawaii & California. No other person was involved in creating or producing these fragrances. This is Nicolas’ passion and as such he is committed to doing all steps by himself, thus keeping the production to only a few hundred bottles per year.
‘Authenticity, Passion and Adventure’ is the motto of the perfumery.

Nicolas Morlet’s Biography
FROM FINE WINES TO LUXURIOUS FRAGRANCES

‘My passion for perfumes started years ago when I first did a training in a beautiful perfumery in Provence, France with the purpose of increasing my olfactive memory for winemaking.
Wine, my first passion, was at the front and center of my career. My girlfriend (now wife) once asked me “if you could achieve anything in your career, what would it be?”  My answer was, that I wished to achieve a score of 100 points from Robert Parker on wine that I had created.  Shortly after this, 2 wines that I made at Peter Michael Winery were given 100 points by Robert Parker. My wife then asked me, “Now what do you wish to achieve?” ‘Fragrances and wine have always seemed like lovers to me. Intimately connected, one leading to the other. A hidden feeling, a sort of language that I have known since the beginning.’ NM

Wine has always been a way of life for Nicolas Morlet, Born in Epernay, Champagne, France, to a fifth-generation winegrower family, Nicolas grew up working on his family’s Domaine, planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on Grand Cru and Premier Crus Terroirs in Champagne. He was a Chef de Caves for seven years in Champagne, worked in Burgundy and Bordeaux and proceeded to obtain a master’s degree in winemaking (Diplôme National d’Oenologue) from the University of Burgundy, France.

Nicolas Morlet’s Biography
FROM FINE WINES TO LUXURIOUS FRAGRANCES

‘My passion for perfumes started years ago when I first did a training in a well-respected perfumery in the town of Grasse in Provence, France with the purpose of increasing my olfactive memory and my sensibility for winemaking.

In the world of wine, Morlet is best known for his tenure with Peter Michael Winery, where he spent 15 years as Winemaker. Under his winemaking direction, Peter Michael Winery was recognized for its excellence with numerous accolades, including ten 100-point scores from Robert Parker, two 100-point scores from Jeb Dunnuck, two Top 10 placements in Wine Spectator’s Top 100, the Service Award from the Wine Spectator in 2014 and the coveted Wine of the Year Award from Wine Spectator in 2015 for the 2012 ‘Au Paradis’.

‘As a Winemaker I always thought about the beauty and the romance of opening a truly spectacular bottle of wine to share with a lover, friends, or family during a flavorful elegant dinner. With my perfumes, I wanted to create in the realm of fragrances a similarly luxurious scent to be enjoyed over months or years: A perfume bottle, once opened, evokes the same romance and nostalgia as a fine bottle of wine.’ Morlet said.
Nicolas’s wife recounts the first time she realized her husband (then boyfriend) had an interest in perfumes. They had been shopping together and had separated at the Corte Madera mall in California (back in the day when people still went shopping at physical stores!). She finished her shopping and called him to see where he was. To her surprise he said that he was in a perfume shop. When she entered the store, she heard the sales lady arguing with him:
‘Sir, there is no cedarwood in this perfume.’ She heard her say.
‘I am sorry but there is and it won’t be nice on her.’ Curious, she edged closer to the two of them.
‘Sir, I am going to look it up for you so you can read the ingredients yourself.’  She then saw the lady to go to her computer type in the perfume and pull up the list of ingredients. The lady scrolled down the ingredients and then stopped. ‘Oh…I am so sorry. I do see cedarwood listed, it is the twentieth ingredient.’
‘Yes, I know.’ Was his short response. His wife stated that she found this quite remarkable.
So, she was not surprised when ten years later he decided to pursue his second passion.
Attracted and ‘pulled’ towards the world of Perfumes, he returned to Grasse, in Provence, France to study the notes, the olfactive accords and the art of composing. Living in Hawaii and travelling the Mediterranean, central America or the coastal countries of East Africa, he was surrounded and enchanted by plumeria, tiare, gardenia, tuberose, lily, jasmine and sandalwood…These travels inspired him. Morlet felt a deep desire and ‘need’ to compose natural fragrances because, as he says, “they respect your skin and they are the soul of true perfumes.”
For the people that will worry about the fate of his first passion, wine, Morlet is still pushing his limits: In 2023, he planted a total of 7 acres mountain vineyard of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon on volcanic soil, located on a beautiful geological plateau between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru (in Tanzania, East Africa), at 3,642 feet of elevation. If his experimentations are successful, he will build his winery in 2026. For more information regarding Morlet’s biography, please, navigate to the website below:
